Letchworth State Park New York
One sunny but cold Columbus day afternoon, we have seen the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful state parks near the city of Rochester. It is Letchworth State Park which is called the “Grand Canyon of the East”. I did not understand why it is called a canyon until seeing it with my own eyes. Genesee River is passing through the state park and creates a magnificent view.

It was awarded a spot on USA Today’s list of best places to visit. The park is roughly 17 miles long with 14,427-acres to explore. Filled with three major waterfalls which are surrounded by lush forests, the fauna and flora are simply astonishing.
Hikers can choose among 66 miles of hiking trails along with ones available for horseback riding, biking, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing. In season, those who visit can see hot air balloons floating through the gorges and over the picturesque waterfalls. Along with many trails to adventure throughout, the historic Glen Iris Inn offers overnight accommodations and is open to the public for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Campers can take advantage of tent and trailer campsites as well as winterized cabins. The park welcomes dogs who are leashed and is ideal for families looking for a day activity in Western New York.

The entrance fee to park is just 10 $ with your car. I do not think that You can just walk in without a vehicle because of the distance from the entrance to where the falls are located. When you search it through google map, it will ask you what location you want to go exactly. It is better that you choose Letchworth State Park visitor center destination. It will take you directly to upper fall entrance
